• Evaluate the needs of the patient and lower the frustration of the rehabilitation process.
  • Attempt to meet the amputee's functional level with the appropriate design.  

  • Educate the patient and the family as to what is to be expected in this new life circumstance.

  • Provide instruction on the prosthetic design, safe usage , and proper care of the prosthesis.

  • Provide prosthetic training when necessary.

  • Provide emotional support through rational conversation and peer support.

  • Provide timely appointments for follow up care in addition to when adjustments to the prosthesis are necessary.

  • Communication with the patient's doctors, physical therapist, and other necessary health care providers in an effort to enhance the rehabilitation process and outcome.
